FAQs about Visas of Germany
Do I need to speak German to study in Germany ?
You must be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of the language your course will be taught in. The language of instruction in most universities in Germany is German, so you might be required to show a certain level of German proficiency if your course will be taught in German.
Can I stay in Germany when I complete my studies ?
Yes, as a foreign national, you can stay in Germany after completing your studies. You have to apply for a residence permit to stay in the country and seek work for an additional period of 18 months. If you gain work in Germany within this time you must extend your visa, residence or work permit to ensure you are living in the country legally.
Can I submit the required documents in my local language ?
All required documents are to be in German, English or French. If they are not in these languages, the original copies must be supplied with a translation into German or English by an acknowledged translator along with one copy of the translation.
How soon can I apply for my German visa ?
Applicants are advised to book an appointment for a German visa up to 3 months in advance. Also bear in mind that longer waiting periods for the application of Schengen-visa (tourist, business, etc.) can be expected during and before the main season (summer holiday and travel season).
